Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection(ICSI)
ICSI Treatment
When couples face difficulties conceiving due to male infertility issues like low sperm count or poor sperm movement, they often explore treatments such as Intra intra-uterine insemination (IUI). For more complex female infertility issues, In Vitro Fertilization (IVF) is usually considered.
In cases where both partners experience fertility challenges, ICSI turns out to be the most effective fertility treatment in bypassing the odds and bolstering pregnancy chances.
Who can opt for ICSI?
Far more advanced than IUI and less extensive than IVF, ICSI is the go-to procedure for fertility specialists at Atom Fertility to make successful conception possible. ICSI treatment in Karimnagar is often recommended for couples facing specific cases of fertility problems, such as:
Male Factor Infertility
Male partners with low sperm count, poor sperm movement, or abnormal sperm shape.
Previous cases of IVF Failure
Couples who experienced failed fertilization or poor embryo quality with traditional IVF.
Sperm Retrieval Challenges
In cases such as obstructive azoospermia or prior vasectomy where sperm retrieval is necessary.
Unexplained Infertility
In specific cases where the cause of infertility in men or women remains unknown despite assessment and diagnosis.
ICSI Treatment – Procedure at Atom Fertility
Step by Step Process in ICSI (Intracytoplasmic Sperm Injection)
Step-1 : Ovarian Stimulation
The woman under a careful monitoring receives hormonal medications to stimulate the ovaries. This encourages the production of multiple eggs, providing a wide selection for healthy egg retrieval.
Step-2 : Egg Retrieval
Once the eggs have matured, they are safely retrieved from the woman’s ovaries through a simple procedure called follicle aspiration.
Step-3 : Semen Collection
Similar to Intra intra-uterine insemination (IUI), semen is collected from the male partner on the same day as egg retrieval. In rare cases, sperm may be surgically retrieved from the epididymis or testicles if necessary.
Step-4 : Sperm Processing and Preparation
The collected semen sample is processed in our laboratory at Atom Fertility. This step aims to isolate the healthiest sperm suitable for ICSI treatment.
Step-5 : Microinjection
Using specialized micromanipulation tools and a microscope, our embryologists carefully select a healthy sperm and inject it directly into the center of a retrieved egg’s cytoplasm to induce fertilization.
Step-6 : Fertilization Check
The fertilized eggs are cultured in a laboratory dish under precise conditions after injection. Our embryologists closely and continuously monitor the eggs to confirm successful fertilization.
Step-7 : Embryo Development
Fertilized eggs, now embryos, are monitored in the laboratory as they develop over the next few days. Embryologists assess overall embryo quality based on symmetry, cell division rate, and fragmentation to ensure optimal health.
Step-8 : Embryo Transfer
High-quality embryos, one or more, are selected for transfer into the woman’s uterus. This transfer typically occurs 3 to 5 days after egg retrieval.
Step-9 : Pregnancy Testing
Around two weeks after embryo transfer (approximately in the third week of the ICSI process), a pregnancy test is conducted to determine the procedure’s success.
ICSI process, in essence, carefully selects the healthiest sperm and directly injects it into the viable egg to ensure a healthy conception. This way, it bypasses all the infertility hurdles to give a couple new hope and promising results, even in the most challenging infertility cases.
