Testicular Sperm Aspiration(TESA)
TESA Treatment
Male factor infertility is a significant contributor to infertility. It can manifest in two different ways: unhealthy sperm, which creates conception problems, and sperm absence in the semen, which nullifies the chance of pregnancy altogether.
In few cases, sperm absence is caused by a condition called obstructive azoospermia, where a blockage prevents the sperm from being ejaculated despite normal sperm production in the testicles. Naturally, this blockage prevents the sperm from reaching the egg, nullifying the chance of pregnancy and making advanced procedures like IUI, IVF, and ICSI unsuccessful.
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) is the most effective solution that solves these sperm blockage problems.
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA)
TESA is an advanced assisted procedure that offers a solution in such rare cases. TESA is a procedure where sperm is directly retrieved from the testicles, bypassing the blockage. By directly retrieving healthy sperm, TESA empowers procedures like IUI, IVF, and ICSI, boosting the chances of successful fertilization and a healthy pregnancy.
Testicular Sperm Aspiration – TESA Procedure
Testicular Sperm Aspiration (TESA) is a minimally invasive surgical procedure that is performed under anaesthesia or light sedation to ensure maximum comfort for the patient during the TESA treatment.
Step by Step Process in TESA (Testicular Sperm Aspiration)
Step-1 : Surgical Access
After the patient is comfortably sedated, a small needle or biopsy device is inserted into the scrotum of the patient and guided into the testicle under the guidance of ultrasound imagery.
Step-2 : Sperm Retrieval
The biopsy device or needle is positioned within the testicle, and minor suction or aspiration is applied to collect the tiny tissue sample containing viable sperm.
Step-3 : Laboratory Examination
The retrieved tissue sample is then examined in our lab at Atom Fertility in Karimnagar, under a microscope to identify and isolate the viable sperm.
Step-4 : Sperm Quality Assessment
The quantity and quality of the retrieved sperm are then assessed to determine and confirm its suitability for in vitro fertilization (IVF) or intracytoplasmic sperm injection (ICSI).
TESA Procedure at Atom Fertility
After the TESA procedure, the patients are monitored for a short period as a precaution to ensure there are no immediate complications. The individuals can resume their daily activities shortly after the TESA treatment. Any surplus sperm that is not used immediately for fertility treatment can be cryopreserved (frozen) for use in the future.
On average, 10% of men who undergo fertility evaluation are diagnosed with this problem. At Atom Fertility, we often come across these cases while evaluating the causes of infertility. Upon diagnosis, our fertility specialists seamlessly perform TESA at our fertility center in Karimnagar to ensure successful IVF and ICSI.
