Oocyte retrieval, or egg retrieval, is an advanced procedure for collecting oocytes (eggs) from a woman’s ovaries. This simple, standard process we perform at Atom Fertility has been a game changer for women across various age groups and family goals.

The process takes a few weeks to prepare, during which eggs are stimulated until the day of the scheduled retrieval. The procedure itself only takes 15-30 minutes under anaesthesia. It is painless and seamless, allowing women to get back to their routine in a day or two.

Procedure: Oocyte Retrieval

1. Preparation: The woman is given medication beforehand to stimulate the ovaries for egg production gradually. This process can take a few weeks before the scheduled day of retrieval.
2. Egg Retrieval: On the scheduled day, an ultrasound is performed to locate the follicles containing mature eggs in the ovaries. A thin needle is inserted through the vagina and cervix to reach the follicles. A suction-type device attached to the needle gently removes the eggs and surrounding fluid from each follicle.
3. Recovery: The procedure takes 15-30 minutes. After the procedure, the woman is monitored in the recovery room at our facility. Mild cramping and discomfort may be experienced, which is natural and manageable.
